Not Quite 6 Week Update

I have not been in much of a blogging mood lately. I see and hear other mothers that have all their "stuff' together and I do not feel like I am one of them. It takes us a long time to get ready for the day and most days, I can not get Addison motivated enough to even leave the house. I don't have much motivation either, but I'm trying. In almost 6 weeks, I have only put makeup on my face once! ONCE! I don't know how people with more than one child do anything! This is hard! (At least it is hard for me!)

Cute little Paige getting her first bath. She loves her baths. It is so fun to watch her little face go from serious to content once she gets in the water. She is such a fun little girl.
Paige was trying to watch what Addison was doing. (Addison is sitting on the counter on the other side of the sink.)

I love that Paige always has her hands on her face when she is sleeping. In the course of me taking these pictures, Paige's hands moved all over her face at least 6 times. Even when I swaddle her up at night and make sure her hands are down to her sides so they are warm, she somehow wiggles them out of the blanket and they end up on her face! She is a mini Houdini!

While I was in my bedroom nursing Paige, Addison was in our living room watching TV. After I got done with Paige, I went out to check on Addison and this is what I found. Note to self: Never leave a three year old unattended with stickers!
  • Paige is doing what I assume all 6 week old babies are doing. Sleeping. She still sleeps most of the time. She has her moments of alertness, but for the most part, she likes to sleep.
  • She does these little smiles. Some would say that they are because of gas, but trust me, she does NOT smile when she has gas!
  • Paige does not like it when Addison gets in her face. Paige knows when Addison is coming towards her because Addison makes this mean "grrr" sound and then won't get out of her face. I don't blame Paige for not liking it. I wouldn't either!
  • Tummy time is a hit or miss kind of thing. Some days Paige doesn't mind it, in fact, on those days she will just fall asleep on her tummy. Other days, she just lays her head down and cries and cries until someone picks her up.
  • Speaking of picking her up, Paige wants to be held all the time. This would be great if I could devote all of my time just to her, but I just can't!
  • Addison is over having a new baby at our house. She is starting to get really jealous and wants to be held by whomever is holding Paige. I am trying to spend one on one time with Addison, but whenever I have a chance to be alone with her, she doesn't want me. Only when I can't be alone with her does she want me. If anyone has any suggestions on what to do about this, I am willing to listen!

I can only imagine how hard it is to get used to having more than one child. And, I bet blogging is the last thing you want to do. I'm sure it will get easier and better. Hang in there!

Fun update and of course little Paige look so sweet. I really like the artistic new look on your TV. I'll bet in her mind she was doing something worth while. :-)

Paige is darling! And tiny too! I know when I had Briggs I tried my best to get Katelyn involved with what I was doing. That way she felt like a helper and a big girl and was not left out. She would always get me a diaper and the wipes, or hold the baby briefly, or help me swaddle him and instead of telling her what she could not do I tried to always have something she could do. And then I would praise her for her help. This really helped us, good luck! I will get better, I promise!

Ditto what Jenni said. I have no advice on multiple children, but I'm sure I'm right when I say it will get easier with time and once everyone embraces the new normal (but that isn't helpful for right now, is it?!)

I didn't do this much because Kimball didn't like it, but can you wear Paige in a sling or comfy baby carrier? Maybe she is too small to do it yet, but that might help her feel close to you while you can get something done, like dishes, laundry, etc. I think Kimball didn't like it much because my sling was too small. I only wore it once or twice. I'd like to try it again someday with a better sling (and a different baby, of course!).

Oh, also, don't worry about "having it all together". I think mothers with newborns who look and sound great on their blogs are faking it. Faking, faking, faking.

Hang in there girl! You're doing great. And if you think the rest of us get out of the house any earlier or more often, you're mistaken!

One piece of advice I was given that has worked well for us....we always bring the kids home a special book as a present from the baby, and then whenever I have to nurse the new baby I let them sit by me and we read that book. I think that is one of the times kids get the most jealous - so I let them be part of it and see what's going on. They learn pretty quickly that it's boring to sit there that long and that they're not missing out on anything...or they just enjoy a good snuggle!

Love Paiges little legs in the sink~ So itty bitty that one. Is she in newborn clothes yet?
I SOOOO agree with ashley "faking it. Faking faking faking!"

There is no way any Mom has it all together unless they are neglecting their children to be dressed and have a clean home.

I manage to get dressed and out of the house daily because Sarynn NEEDS to get out, but you would not want to see my house and especially the BEDROOMS....... but we do have a routine down and things are getting easier day by day. I mean, I just put all of babies clothes away for the first time in 3 weeks. They had been sitting on her dresser as they came out of the dryer.

oh yeah and FYI I got chalk all over my walls when I left to nurse once. Don't leave her alone with chalk either.

You are doing great, don't even compare yourself to other moms. There is definitely an adjustment period you have to go through--I felt like we would never leave the house, too, but now I can get all 3 of us ready in 30 mins. I promise it gets better. One thing that's good is to have a nursing basket for Addison so that she can pull it out when you nurse. It can have coloring books, stickers, puzzles, etc. That way it is a bonding time rather than time where she feels excluded.

She is so cute and tiny!
The whole 2 kid thing gets better with time, I promise! One day you'll feel like you have got the hang of things. It still takes me twice as long to get out of the house and we are usually always late everywhere we go, but whatever, it's life right?
